Small / Medium
Head Circumference: approx. 21.0” – 22.0”; 12” diameter;
Large
Head Circumference: approx. 23.0” – 24.0”; 13” diameter;

MATERIALS
Omega Sinfonia (100% Mercerized Cotton 3.52oz/100g; 218yd/200m); Sport weight;
(803 Black) or (816 Teal) – approx. 1 ball;

  • US size 6 /4 mm
    Circular Needle (16 in / 40.5 cm long), and Double Pointed Knitting Needles;
    OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
  • Yarn needle.

GAUGE
20 sts and 34 rows to 4”/10 cm over Stocking (Stockinette) Stitch.
TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

SPECIAL STITCH
MB (make bobble) – (K1, p1, k1, p1) in same st; turn; k4; turn; p4; turn; k4; turn; k4tog through back loops.

INSTRUCTIONS

Notes: 

  1. Instructions are written for the smallest size with changes for larger sizes given in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.
  2. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to size that you’re making.
  3. To avoid mistake(s), count stitches in each round when finished.
  4. The hat is worked in rounds downward from top. Begin working with dpns, then change to circular needle when necessary.

 

HAT
Cast on 8 sts. Divide into 3 or 4 dpns, place marker for beginning of round, and join while being careful not to twist sts.

Rnd 1:  Knit – 8 sts.

Rnd 2:  * Yo, k1; repeat from * around – 16 sts.

Rnd 3 and all odd-numbered rnds to 31:  Knit.

Rnd 4:  * Yo, k2; repeat from * around – 24 sts.

Rnd 6:  * Yo, k3; repeat from * around – 32 sts.

Rnd 8:  * Yo, k4; repeat from * around – 40 sts.

Rnd 10:  * Yo, k5; repeat from * around – 48 sts.

Rnd 12:  * Yo, k6; repeat from * around – 56 sts.

Rnd 14:  * Yo, k7; repeat from * around – 64 sts.

Rnd 16:  * Yo, k8; repeat from * around – 72 sts.

Rnd 18:  * Yo, k1, yo, ssk, k6; repeat from * around – 80 sts.

Rnd 20:  * Yo, k1, (yo, ssk) twice, k5; repeat from * around – 88 sts.

Rnd 22:  * Yo, k1, (yo, ssk) 3 times, k4; repeat from * around – 96 sts.

Rnd 24:  * Yo, k1, (yo, ssk) 4 times, k3; repeat from * around – 104 sts.

Rnd 26:  * Yo, k1, (yo, ssk) 5 times, k2; repeat from * around – 112 sts.

Rnd 28: * Yo, k1, (yo, ssk) 6 times, k1; repeat from * around – 120 sts.

Rnd 30:  * Yo, k1, (yo, ssk) 7 times; repeat from * around – 128 sts.

Rnd 32:  Purl – 128 sts.

For size Small / Medium only
Rnd 33:  * K7, kfb; repeat from * around – 144 sts.

For size Large only
Rnd 33:  * K3, kfb; repeat from * around – 160 sts.

For All sizes

Rnd 34:   Purl – 144 (160) sts.

Rnds 35-36:  Knit – 144 (160) sts.

For size Small / Medium only
Rnd 37:  K3, MB, * k5, MB; repeat from * around to last 2 sts, end k2 – 144 sts.

For size Large only
Rnd 37:  K2, MB, * k4, MB; repeat from * around to last 2 sts, end k2 – 160 sts.

For All sizes

Rnds 38-39:  Knit – 144 (160) sts.

Rnd 40:  Purl – 144 (160) sts.

Rnd 41:  Knit – 144 (160) sts.

Rnd 42-43:  Repeat Rnds 40-41 once.

Rnd 44:  * Ssk, yo; repeat from * around – 144 (160) sts.

Rnd 45:  Knit – 144 (160) sts.

Next Rnds:  Repeat Rnds 44-45   10 (16) times more.

Next (Dec) Rnd:  * Ssk, k2; repeat from * around – 108 (120) sts.

Next (Dec )Rnd:  * Ssk, k4; repeat from * around – 90 (100) sts.

Next Rnd:  * K1, p1; repeat from * around – 90 (100) sts.

Repeat last round for 1.5”/ 3.8 cm.

Picot Edging Rnd: (do not work loosely)
Bind off 1 st, * slip next st off right-hand needle onto left-hand needle, cast on 3 sts, then bind off 5 sts; repeat from * to end.

FINISHING
Weave in all yarn ends to wrong side of work.
